About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner to join the busy transport operation based on site at Magna Park, Lutterworth. The site operates as part of a national distribution network, supporting store deliveries across the UK.
This is a fast-paced role suited to someone with strong planning skills, excellent communication, and the ability to make quick decisions in a high-volume FMCG transport environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Transport Planner will be responsible for:
- Planning daily transport routes for store deliveries and collections.
- Allocating vehicles, drivers and trailers efficiently.
- Monitoring delivery schedules and reacting to delays, breakdowns or operational issues.
- Liaising with drivers, warehouse teams, transport managers and store contacts.
- Ensuring vehicle utilisation is maximised while reducing empty mileage where possible.
- Managing driver start times, route changes and daily transport paperwork.
- Ensuring all transport activity is compliant with legal and company requirements.
- Supporting compliance with drivers’ hours, tachograph regulations and working time rules.
- Updating transport systems accurately and in real time.
- Producing reports on transport performance, service levels and planning issues.
- Supporting continuous improvement across the transport operation.
- Helping resolve issues relating to late deliveries, missed slots or resource shortages.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner, Transport Coordinator, Traffic Planner or similar.
- Experience within FMCG, retail distribution, 3PL, supermarket logistics or high-volume transport.
- Good understanding of UK transport legislation, drivers’ hours and tachograph rules.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a time-critical environment.
- Strong communication skills with drivers, managers and warehouse teams.
- Good IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Excel.
- A flexible approach to shifts, weekends and changing operational demands.

Desirable Experience
- Supermarket or retail distribution experience.
- Experience planning multi-drop store deliveries.
- Experience working with agency and permanent drivers.
- Knowledge of route planning or transport optimisation software.
- Experience in chilled, ambient or FMCG distribution.
- Previous work within a large distribution centre or 3PL environment.
